About Ilija Ampevski

Ilija Ampevski graduated as an elite clarinet player from the Music and Ballet School in Macedonia in 1989. In 1991 he was distinguished by winning the 1st prize in the “XX Jubilee Competition of Music” in Macedonia and subsequently in the same year, at the National Competition in Montenegro in the Former Republic of Yugoslavia.

He commenced his career as a professional musician at the relatively young age of 18 years – playing clarinet and alto saxophone with the famous Macedonian folk band Makedonski Merak. From 1992 to 1998, he performed in concert tours with the band in many European countries in addition to Canada and USA. He played with the legendary accordion player Maestro Milan Zavkov and accompanied several famous Macedonian folk singers. In 2004 he formed the Ampevski Macedonian Ensemble and performed at the Chicago World Music Festival receiving an outstanding review by The Chicago Tribune music critic Howard Reich.

In addition to his outstanding reputation for live performances, Mr Ampevski is a highly regarded studio musician with ten CD’s published. Within the large Macedonian music community in Australia, he is well known as one of the finest woodwind virtuosos that his country has ever produced.
Mr Ampevski’s skills and expertise are outstanding as a performing instrumentalist.
